Following on in truly epigone fashion from both the original 'Music for Stairwell' project at Artspace in Auckland and its namesake derivative at High Street Project in Christchurch, 'Music for Compression Chamber' is a sound series situated in a vacuous antechamber created by unsympathetic landlords intent on creating a regulatory and unaccommodating architectural conduit to HSP's first-floor space at 140a Lichfield Street. The two-by-two-by-three metre space, enclosed by three stiff doors in very stiff proximity, presents exactly the kind of anechoic space we've grown so suspicious of in the increasing acoustic horror vacui of a post-Cagean world.

High Street project is currently seeking submissions from sound artists and musicians to respond to this space with sonic material that discreetly enters or envelops, appeases or exacerbates its clinical ambiance. All work submitted will be gratefully accepted and played on weekly rotation and must be submitted on Compact Disc audio or mp3 to the address below. They can be any length. The sound will emanate from a CD speakers located in the top corner of the space.
